Makeover Monday: This Old Door

Once in awhile you just get lucky.

Not long ago I dropped by a yard sale, and what to my wondering eyes did appear but a beautiful old, chippy, flaky, rusty door.

Hey, beauty is in the eyes of the beholder, don't judge!

Seriously, this was something I'd been hoping to find for awhile.

Originally I had wanted one like this to use as a headboard, from a great tutorial I saw on Pinterest.  But when the door of my dreams didn't appear, I finally moved on and made different kind of headboard.

So instead of hanging behind my bed, this door would find a home and a new life in my shop.  Standing there at the side of the road, I could picture it:  Painted, distressed, waxed.  Panels would be chalkboard to draw my logo and to write messages to customers.  As an added bonus, this old beauty even had a mail slot.  I would use that for a business card drawing!!!

OH HAPPY DAY!

I know.  I need a life.  Sigh....

Here's how she's shaping up so far.  Just playing around with the chalk, so this isn't a finished product yet.

The basket hung from the mail slot will hold my business cards, and a notepad of paper so shoppers can write their info and drop it in the slot for a monthly drawing.

What do you think?

Thanks for reading!  I have linked this post up with a few bloghops.  If you'd like to join the parties, I've listed all the links in my sidebar.  Hope to see you there!

  5. Hey Anne with an E. I enjoyed your comment immensely. So glad we found each other. I'll be hanging around here often! Your door is my dream and hanging the basket on it is right up my alley. My favorite chalkboard has a spice rack hanging on it similar to your door. Will be reading your back posts and becoming a follower too.

  10. Anne, this is fabulous! I also love old doors and would have been tempted to grab this one up, too. Except, I am not at all crafty and would not have know what to do with it after I grabbed it up! My sister recently refurbished an old door with glass panes into a giant shelf hung longways (sideways) on her family room wall (she added a shelf to the bottom of it). It looks marvelous! I love how you have decided to refurbish your door. One crafting idea that I do have in my little mind is to convert an old wooden ladder in to a scarf rack. I think I can manage that...if I could find an old wooden ladder that doesn't cost a fortune!

Thanks for swinging by my little space on the internet! I host a weekly link up as well (On the Edge of the Week Link Up) which goes live every Thursday at 5:00 p.m. EST (in just a few hours). I would love for you to stop by and join us for the fun!

  12. Hey Anne. So glad I came over to visit your blog. The minute I saw this door it was an Aha moment for me. I have a very old door in the shed somewhere and might just convince the hubs to pull it out for me to finally do something with it.

  20. Loving what you did with your door, isn't it wonderful what can be done with old things others throw aside? The wire basket on mail slot is added bonus along with chalkboard panels. Great redo which is one of things I love most about bloggers. Since I discovered blogs have been inspired everyday, not enuf hours to do all I want to. Welcome to this special world.
Sorry to hear about your Mom, never easy no matter what we think we should feel. We lost our 22 yr. old grandson on June 8th. to recurring testicular cancer. One minute am going along, kind of ok then another bawling my eyes out, can't look at photo of him without crying. Daughter and hubs are getting impatient with me but how do you stop missing a grandson? Feel like have big rock stuck in my chest.
Now am really regretting doors left behind at KY house when we moved here to CO when I see what bloggers do with them. I think we could have gotten them in moving truck but hubs said no to many things like my old wood windows, darn him. Finding things here as I did in KY is much harder, just not as available and costs are high. Everything is much more expensive here.
    Have wonderful weekend
